About Us

What is WiMAC?

The Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WiMAC), is a regional group of female maritime professionals committed to increasing the performance, participation and contribution of women in the maritime sector. 

A network of over 60 female maritime professionals, WiMAC is committed to transforming the lives and status of women through education, mentorship , empowerment and enabling opportunities.

WiMAC was launched in April 2015 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and is one of the youngest of several regional associations of female maritime professionals established under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to provide a forum for networking and advocacy in support of the IMO’s own programme for integration of women in the maritime industry.

It is the 7th Regional Network of Women in Maritime established by the IMO which focuses on building the capacity of women in the maritime space and creating partnerships for the sustained development of the organization.

There are eight sister associations in different regions of the world (including Latin America, the Pacific, West and Central Africa, Asia, the Arab States) that promote the participation and advancement of women in all areas of the maritime space. WiMAC is a private non-profit organization.

More than fourteen (14) Caribbean countries are currently members of WiMAC including Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Panama, Suriname, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.

First Governing Council April, 2015

The overall decision-making is the responsibility of the Governing Council (GC) and is guided by a strategic direction which will inform the Association’s execution of its Mission, Vision and Core Values. 

Membership Categories

Full Membership

Shall consist of all female Caribbean nationals or residents employed or engaged in activities in the maritime sector. Voting rights are allocated to full members.

Affiliate Membership

Shall consist of individuals (including students)in the Caribbean region, who have been accepted in accordance with the Articles of Association and agree to and respect the purpose and objectives of the Association.
– Male individuals
may be members of WIMA Caribbean as Affiliate Members.
– Affiliate members
shall not be eligible for nomination for service on the Governing Council but can be members of Working Committees.
–  Students
can sign on as affiliate members.

Corporate Membership

Shall consist of companies, governmental and intergovernmental organizations, and non-governmental organizations and other like entities that share and support the objectives of the Association.
